Metropolitan’s Kinetic Literacy Program
Metropolitan brings dance and movement into the classroom, strengthening math and literacy skills for elementary school students, and proudly celebrates 17 years of community partnership with the School District of Philadelphia.
Since 2008, Metropolitan has delivered its innovative Kinetic Literacy Program to kindergarten through second grade students in the School District of Philadelphia's elementary schools. Each year, 425-450 students (18-20 classrooms) participate in Metropolitan’s on-site classes held during the school day.
The Kinetic Literacy Program is a standards-based, integrated academic program which combines visual, auditory, and kinesthetic methodologies to enhance and invigorate the English/Language Arts and Math curriculum. Students also attend a special matinee performance of Metropolitan’s annual Family Concert Series, free of charge, bringing to life the stories they’ve been reading in their classrooms.
