Academy Policies
We cannot be responsible for children left unattended. Students must be supervised by an adult until their class begins. Prompt pick-up after class in the downstairs studio area is required.
For your children’s safety, we require that ALL children must ALWAYS be picked up from class downstairs, in the studio area, not upstairs or outside. Please instruct your child to wait downstairs. Do not allow children to be unattended in the parking lot. Parking in the no-parking zone is forbidden and endangers all of our children. Please park your car and come inside to pick up your child.
Students are placed on an individual basis and will be advanced at the Director’s discretion.
We reserve the right to close the school due to inclement weather. Metropolitan Ballet Academy & Company follows “snow number” 301 (Abington School District). Please call our office at 215-663-1665 if you are unsure about the weather. A message will be on the answering machine by 2:30 pm. Closings are also posted on Metropolitan’s Facebook page. Metropolitan Ballet Academy’s Student Showcase is held annually in late spring. While participation in Showcase is not mandatory, it offers students a rewarding, professional quality performance experience. In order to choreograph, prepare costumes and plan Showcase, we require students to commit by returning a permission form and theatre fee of approximately $125. Performance in the Showcase is contingent upon adequate class attendance.
Acceptance into the Boys’ Scholarship Program represents a tuition award for an academic year-long program, divided into three 12-week trimesters, for a total of 36 weeks of instruction.
The Boys’ Scholarship Program award does not include tuition-free participation in the Bridge program or Summer Intensive. Some scholarship funding is available for these programs; interested students should apply separately and in writing.
Class attendance requirements for the Boys’ Scholarship Program differ depending upon the student’s assigned level.
Company Policies
I will not involve myself in any activity which conflicts with my responsibilities to Metropolitan Ballet Company.
I will apply myself in all classes, rehearsals and performances required and will comply with the regulations for attendance:
A minimum of four ballet technique classes per week is required (MBA schedule). Company class on Saturday is an extra privilege provided as part of Company membership, and does not count as a required weekly class.
Attendance at all scheduled rehearsals and performances is required.
In case of an absence due to illness or family emergency, the Artistic Director, or working choreographer, must be notified by telephone, 215.663.1665, prior to the rehearsal.
Anticipated absences such as graduation, Scholastic Aptitude Tests, etc., must be cleared with the Artistic Director prior to the rehearsal to be missed. Early notification may facilitate a rearrangement of rehearsal schedule possibly alleviating the need for re-rehearsing or re-casting.
Any absence may result in removal from ballet(s) being rehearsed during the missed rehearsal.
MBC COMPANY MEMBERS MUST BE ON TIME FOR ALL REHEARSALS AND CLASSES.
During the summer, MBC Company Members are required to attend Bridge, and, a minimum of two weeks of MBA Summer Intensive, or one week of MBA Summer Intensive plus at least one week in a program approved by the Artistic Staff of Metropolitan Ballet Company. Each dancer is asked to please make an appointment in December with Artistic staff for guidance in choosing and scheduling auditions for summer intensive programs. A deposit of $425 (one week tuition) for MBA summer intensive tuition is due May 4, 2024.
3. Rehearsal schedules will be posted for each week by the first day of that week. Please check the board / email.
4. MBC Company Members will be fined $150.00 OR COST for costumes damaged due to negligence.
5. When the dancer is in a production and photographs and or videos are taken, the dancer hereby gives permission for his/her photographic/ video likeness to be used by MBC for publicity and promotional purposes at the Artistic Director’s discretion. All said photographs and videos are to remain the property of MBC and MBC reserves the right to use said photographs and videos at any time. Additionally, all photographs / videos that are to be taken with the company’s name should have the artistic director’s approval.
6. While on the grounds of the Metropolitan Ballet Academy, or while representing the Metropolitan Ballet Company and/or Academy in any way, including on social media, MBC Company Members must follow all studio rules and behave and dress in a manner that is professional, appropriate and respectful.
7. It is the expectation that students will pack a lunch and water if the rehearsal call requires they stay over a lunch or dinner period. MBC does its best to schedule rehearsals so that students do not have long breaks between calls. We cannot be responsible for any student who leaves the studio during class or rehearsal calls.
8. Failure to comply with the above rules may result in the removal from ballet(s) and/or dismissal from the Company. Penalty will be determined by the Artistic Staff and will be made in the best interests of the Company as a whole.
9. I release Metropolitan Ballet Company and Metropolitan Ballet Academy from liability for injuries to the person or property of the student/Company Member that may occur while participating in the activities of the Company or the Academy. I further agree to indemnify Metropolitan Ballet Company and/or Metropolitan Ballet Academy in the event any claims are asserted against it arising from the student’s/Company Member’s participation in the activities of the Company and/or the Academy.
